Al Haramain Watch Calls for an Investigation into the Arrest of Palestinian Pilgrims in Saudi Arabia during the Hajj Season

The International Commission to Watch Saudi Administration of Muslim Places’’ Al Haramain Watch’’ condemned the arrest of the Saudi regime of pilgrims of Palestinian origins during the Hajj season this year. The Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights published today the testimonies of the families of detainees in Saudi prisons, including Palestinian pilgrims, as the observatory confirmed that the families of detainees during the Hajj season remain silent on the conditions of detention of their children in the hope of ending the nightmare of enforced disappearance and return to normal life.

Among the testimonies presented by the Human Rights Centre is that a family of Palestinian origin with Jordanian nationality left their breadwinner to perform Hajj with his wife, but he did not return to Jordan despite the return of his wife, who informed his sons and friends that the authorities in Jeddah had requested to meet him on August 9th. At the time of her return to Jordan, the wife had submitted the necessary documents to the Saudi Embassy in Amman, and had requested the Jordanian Foreign Ministry to help obtain information about her husband’s fate and conditions of detention.

The International Committee said that the Saudi government is still politicizing worship places and using the file of Hajj and Umrah to lure opponents of Saudi Arabia or its allies by traping them using the Hajj or Umrah visa. .

The International Commission added that Saudi Arabia deprives many Muslim countries and individuals of Umrah and Hajj,as happened during the current Hajj season for political reasons and those who are allowed to do Hajj or Umrah from dissidents are caught and arrested during the pilgrimage. Al haramain Watch demanded to nform their families of their whereabouts and circumstances and the reason for the arrest.

The commission also called for the involvement of Islamic countries and institutions in the management of holy sites in Saudi Arabia because the Saudi administration failed to neutralize the holy sites and distorted the religious message of Islamic worship and spread fear and terror in the hearts of Muslims to enter Saudi Arabia for fear of being arrested or kidnapped.

The commission will also prevent the Saudi Arabia singling out the decision over the holy rituals, which may affect the safety of pilgrims and Umrah.  It also aims to prevent the unconvincing closure of rituals such as visiting dignitaries or celebrities or guests of Saudi Arabia. In addition, it will monitor any violation of Saudi Arabia to any pilgrim during his visit to the holy sites. Finally, it will ensure a fair distribution of Hajj and Umrah quotas on Muslim countries without any favouritism or mediation.

The International Commission to Watch Saudi Administration of Muslim places “Al Haramain Watch” is a global organization that monitors the ways and means of Saudi Arabia’s administration of the holy sites in Mecca and Medina, especially the Haramain, including the Islamic historical sites in the Kingdom. The Commission’s work is based on an Islamic reference, and is keen on the interests of Muslims from the ocean to the Gulf and all areas of Islamic presence.
