Al Haramain Watch: The Saudi Government Exploits the Pilgrims of the House of Allah Economically
The International Commission to Watch Saudi Administration of Muslim places “Al Haramain Watch” said that the Saudi Arabia has imposed a very high registration fee, and all pilgrims cannot afford to cover these costs. There are thousands of pilgrims who borrow money to make pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia and perform the fifth Islamic duty. Many pilgrims were surprised when they arrived in Mecca to perform the pilgrimage at the high prices they pay other than fees, such as train tickets in the Hajj places, which is one ticket 250 riyals, apart from the costs of Arafat tents, electricity and water and a lot of miscellaneous service charges.
One of the Algerian pilgrims said that their journey was a kind of suffering journey, where the housing was inadequate and humiliating, and the food was also unavailable, forcing them to share with each other suitable food, regardless the daily expenses for the services that were spent in Mecca. He added that to perform the pilgrimage for the purpose of worship and the forgiveness of God Almighty and not for tourism and leisure also said that anyone who wants to Hajj must have too much money to bear the costs of Hajj.
Al Haramain Watch said the Saudi government and the ruling family were dealing with the Hajj season as purely economic income and did not care about the needs of pilgrims or develop the holy places while ignoring to preserve the Islamic heritage and only interested in the proceeds of Hajj to divide them after the end of the pilgrimage season. The Commission stressed its repeated demands to involve Islamic institutions and governments in the management of the holy places in the holy sites, after carelessness and obvious negligence by the current Saudi administration and exploitation of pilgrims economically.
Al Haramain Watch aims to ensure that Saudi Arabia manages the two holy mosques and Islamic sites in a proper manner that preserves the past and the present image of Islam. The commission will apply this aim by advising Riyadh through an Islamic advisory board, engaging Muslim countries in managing the holy rituals, and stopping the obliteration of Islamic identity in Mecca and Medina, which is carried out by Saudi Arabia through the unlimited urban expansion that destroyed many of these sites and eliminated the Islamic presence in them. The commission will also prevent the Saudi Arabia singling out the decision over the holy rituals, which may affect the safety of pilgrims and Umrah. It also aims to prevent the unconvincing closure of rituals such as visiting dignitaries or celebrities or guests of Saudi Arabia. In addition, it will monitor any violation of Saudi Arabia to any pilgrim during his visit to the holy sites. Finally, it will ensure a fair distribution of Hajj and Umrah quotas on Muslim countries without any favouritism or mediation.
The International Commission to Watch Saudi Administration of Muslim places “Al Haramain Watch” is a global organization that monitors the ways and means of Saudi Arabia’s administration of the holy sites in Mecca and Medina, especially the Haramain, including the Islamic historical sites in the Kingdom. The Commission’s work is based on an Islamic reference, and is keen on the interests of Muslims from the ocean to the Gulf and all areas of Islamic presence.
